In alignment with the eSkills for Jobs Campaign and Europe Code Week, the Kodu Kup Europe, a 6 month European coding competition, brought together 8 winning national teams from Portugal, Finland, Norway, UK, Belgium, Greece, Estonia and Lithuania.
On 15 October 2014, the 8 winning national teams, with members aged between 6 and 16 years old, pitched their winning games to a jury of MEPs, education and gaming experts and digital entrepreneurs at the Microsoft Centre in Brussels. The competition, a joint initiative of Microsoft and European Schoolnet, promoted teamwork, computational thinking, design, digital skills and the new literacy of Europe: coding. Pupils' games were designed in class and demonstrated the coding and digital skills they developed through Microsoft Kodu Game Lab.

Following the Kodu Kup Europe, a Coding and Education Twitter Chat took place with the participation of European Schoolnet, Sergej Koperdak (European Commission), Pieter De Baets (Facebook Engineer), Alexa Joyce (Microsoft), John Woollard (CAS Board member) and Marijete Shaake (MEP). Why should young people learn how to code? Are schools equipped to start early and prepare youth for digital jobs? Should industry play a role in designing educational curricula? These were some of the questions addressed to the participants of the chat. Follow #KoduKup_EU
